MELBOURNE—28 August, 2014 – Nitro Founder and CEO Sam Chandler emerged as the 2014 ‘Best Rising Star’ at the BRW GE Capital Momentum Awards last night, recognised for driving the growth and international expansion of Nitro, the Australian-founded digital document productivity and collaboration company.
Under Chandler’s stewardship, Nitro has cemented its position as one of the fastest-growing, and largest, tech startups to come out of Australia. A serial entrepreneur, Chandler started his first company at 16 when still in high school and his second at 21 while studying at RMIT. Having launched Nitro in Melbourne in 2005, the company has grown under Chandler’s vision and leadership to become a global leader in digital document productivity and collaboration solutions. With over 150 employees and 500,000 customers worldwide, Nitro’s award-winning desktop and cloud based digital document products are now used every month by millions of people in almost 200 countries.
The 2014 Rising Star award adds to a string of accolades for Nitro this year, with Chandler taking the top gong at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Southern Region Awards in the emerging category last month. Nitro also recently claimed the #2 spot in the JobAdvisor list of Australia’s Coolest Tech Companies, beating out competition from a pool of more than 300 businesses.
“When we founded Nitro, we knew that the document productivity and collaboration market had huge potential,” said Chandler. “We’re only a small part of the way along our journey to building a really big business, but it’s fantastic to see the hard work of all our Nitronauts recognized in this award.
“Appearing in a ‘Rising Star’ category suggests that you’re doing pretty well, but also that there is a lot more to potential to play out – which is exactly how we feel about where Nitro is now.”
In addition to expanding its existing San Francisco headquarters and offices in Melbourne, Dublin and Nitra, Slovakia, Nitro recently opened an office in St. Petersburg, Russia to further strengthen and grow its engineering team and more global expansion is planned over the coming year. The company is hiring worldwide, and across all departments.
