Beca finds cost-effective, easy-to-use alternative in Nitro
Beca is one of Asia Pacific’s largest independent advisory, design and engineering consultancies. Based in New Zealand, and with 25 offices around the world, the company employs experts in more than 70 different disciplines spanning everything from water resources management to AI.
Before 2019, almost all Beca employees were using a PDF editing tool designed specifically for architecture, engineering and construction professionals. It is a complex and powerful piece of software – with a hefty price tag to match.
The problem is that employees in areas such as HR and finance have no need for anything so elaborate. A far better solution for the 650+ employees in corporate functions, many of whom are not especially tech savvy, would be a cost-effective PDF editing tool that’s quick to learn and easy to use. This was the alternative Beca was looking for.
Members of Beca’s ICT team tested three potential solutions before voting overwhelmingly in favor of Nitro. Key attractions included the intuitive and familiar-feeling user interface as well as the range and quality of the tool’s functionalities.
Nitro is now the default solution for almost everybody in the organization’s corporate functions. Employees use Nitro PDF Pro for a wide range of PDF editing and marking-up activities and Nitro Sign to send and request electronic signatures, which has helped speed up key workflows. As Mhak Pazcoguin, Senior Applications Support Professional at Beca, says: “The reaction to Nitro has been hugely positive. I’ve had lots of people telling me how much they love it. I’ve also been approached by lots of people in our non-corporate functions, asking if they can have Nitro as well!”
And it’s not just the solution itself that’s proving a hit. “There are two things about the many different software applications I manage that are make-or-break issues for me. One is the functionality. The other is the people. The Nitro team members I deal with are not at all sales-y. They listen to your feedback. They are honest with you about what the product can and can’t do. They are always there to offer support when you need it. The product on its own is great, but the people really take it to the next level.”
